South Devon Railway 'Out of Season Visitors' |

Late October brought "Twitchers" out in force to see a Common
Crane (if you live in Russia) but a Jolly Rare Crane if you live in the
UK. This one took up residence in a watermeadow beside the line near Staverton.
Our well informed crew knew immediately what it was and reported that there
was an Emu by the line, or maybe it was an Ostrich. RSPB were contacted
and reckoned it was a crane, which was confirmed after they rushed to see
it at high speed - soon to be followed by an entourage of bird watchers!
