The Membership of the South Devon Railway Association
is the life blood of the South Devon Railway.
Most of the staff operating the railway are volunteers
and members' subscriptions are put to good use on all sorts of projects.
Members are in a unique position to spread the word about the South Devon
Railway by talking about us to friends and colleagues, and by distributing
and displaying publicity material all over the country, an well as abroad
A high quality magazine , "BULLIVER" featuring comprehensive
news of developments on the Railway, interesting articles, letters and
first class photographs is posted to you quarterly.

The opportunity to work on the Railway in a variety of
fascinating and rewarding jobs, from Ticket Inspector to Signalman, from
Platelayer to
Carriage Restorer, from Station Maintenance to Signal

Lineman, from Guard to Fireman or eventually, Engine
Driver.

Film and slide shows and talks on Railway subjects are
held regularly in Devon, London, Birmingham and the South Coast

The South Devon Railway is unique in being Twinned with
the Chemin de fer Tounstique
du Vermandois. a French steam railway at Saint-Quentin between Calais
and Paris.

The principle Aim and Object of the South Devon Railway Association is :
"To provide assistance - financial or otherwise - to the South Devon Railway Trust for the operation, promotion and restoration of the railway between Buckfastleigh and Totnes in the County of Devon. The Association will endeavour at all times to create standards that, where possible, reflect the best traditions of the Great Western Railway or British Railways (Western Region)."
In furtherance of this, the South Devon Railway Association
has, over the years, acquired several items of Great Western Railway and
other rolling stock for use on the South Devon Railway. Its fleet includes:
Working members who live some distance from the Railway
have the opportunity to book an overnight bunk in 'Hulbert Hall', the Association's
dormitory attached to the volunteers mess room. Alternatively a list of
local hotels and Guest Houses is available on request.(link)
